MAJESTIC VIEWS AND EXTREME BIKING TRAILS!
Castlewood Park, located
at 1401 Kiefer Creek Road in Ballwin, MO, consist of 1,800 acres of
scenic bluffs and ridge top views overlooking the Meramec River and
offers the following activities; fishing, picnicking, hiking, equestrian,
and what its best known for... its mountain biking trails. The park
includes 15.5 miles of trails for hiking or biking. The park has trails
for the novice rider to the more experienced biker. If hiking or biking
doesn't interest you, how bout fishing for bluegill, largemouth bass
and catfish in the cool waters of the Meramec River. When spending
a day at this beautiful park, you can understand why this former resort
was so popular in the early 1900's. |

HIKE, BIKE, CAMP OR RIDE IN BABLER PARK!
The Dr. Edmund A. Babler Memorial State Park,
located in Wildwood, MO, is a 2,441acre park which has much to offer
St. Louis residents without driving for hours. There are activities
for everyone in the family; one could go camping, picnicing, swimming,
bicycling, horse back riding, or go hiking on the magnificent trails
in this state park. The guided horseback trails that weave through
the park's deep sheltered valleys and towering forests of oaks and
sugar maples can help you leave your problems in the city. Plus, the
thirteen miles of hiking trails ensure a variety of outdoor experiences.
Stop in the visitor center which has exhibits that illustrates the
wonders of the park's natural communities; classrooms and an auditorium

RUN, JOG, FISH, SAIL! DO IT ALL AT CREVE COEUR COUNTY PARK
Creve Coeur County Park, located in Maryland Heights, is one of St. Louis' most popular parks. This 1,185 acre park also has a 320-acre lake, with a sandy beach, where you can enjoy the afternoon sailing or fishing. The park, which was once a summer resort in the early 1900s, has many ammenities such as; picnic areas and shelters, athletic fields, an archery range, playgrounds for the kids, tennis courts, a Polo field, Frisbee Disc Golf course and maybe what the park is most known for, its paved walking and cycling trails. This a beautiful park where you can spend the whole day with your family. |

TRAINS, TRAINS, AND MORE TRAINS!
The Museum of Transportation, located at 3015 Barrett Station Road in Southwest St. Louis County, is an amazing outdoor museum that showcases the history of transportation. You'll be able to view cars, fire trucks, buses, and trolleys that you may never have seen before. But their biggest collection includes trains, which they have 27 diesel or other internal combustion locomotives, 10 electrics, one gas-turbine, 45 freight cars, 31 passenger train cars, plus street, interurban and rapid transit cars. Their 33 steam locomotives make up the largest collection in North America, with an example of nearly every major type. The summer schedule (May 1 through Labor Day) is: 9:00 - 5:00, Monday - Wednesday, and Friday - Saturday, 9:00 - 7:00 Thursday, 11:00 - 5:00 Sunday. Check it out... The kids will love it! |

Laumeier Sculpture Park,
located off of Rott Road in Soutwest St. Louis
County, is a 98-acre park and museum. With more
than 80 sculptures by artist with international
acclaim, this park is one of St. Louis' must sees.
Laumeier has a lot to offer; art enthusiast can
enjoy contemporary sculpture, drawings, paintings,
ceramics and photography related to the outdoor
sculpture program. There are also hiking trails
that wind throughout the park. Take advantage
of this unique opportunity to view art without
walls, there aren't many places you can hike and
view amazing contemporary art at the same time.

Vlasis Park, located
North of Manchester Road between Seven Trails
Dr., Ball Park Drive and Holloway Drive, is Ballwin,
MO largest park covering 31 acres. The park features
two ball diamonds, a playground, four tennis courts,
restrooms, two ponds, one of which is stocked
with fish, two pavilions, a walking path, two
sand volley ball courts, and eight horseshoe courts.
This is a wonderful place to spend quality time
with the family, picnic with the kids, or just
walk around the park and soak in its beauty. You
can let the kids unwind at the parks playground
or you can unwind by sitting by the ponds
and watching the geese and ducks swim.

The Magic House, located
at 516 S. Kirkwood Rd, was recently named the
#1 national attraction for child appeal by Zagat
U.S. Family Travel Guide. It really is no surprise
that this children's museum has received this
distinction as children of all ages have been
learning and having fun at the Kirkwood, MO location
for years. There is plenty to do and see; like
learning about magnets or become a news anchor,
or see your silhouette transformed into a kaleidoscope
of color as you create a personalized moving work
of art. This is a great place for a field trip
or a birthday party, or sign your toddler up for

Soulard, one of St.
Louis' most Historical neighborhoods, is well
known for its festive and sometimes boisterous
Mardi Gras (third largest in the U.S.) and St.
Patrick's Day celebrations. Once you spend some
time there you will realize that this is one great
neighborhood. From the amazing architecture of
the landmark buildings and row houses to the mix
of locals that live there, this unique neighborhood
is not duplicated anywhere in America. Meet your
friends for dinner and drinks or listen to some
of the areas finest musicians at bars such as
John D. McGurks's, Hammerstone's, Venice Cafe
and The Great Grizzly Bear Smoke House & Music
Club. Soulard has a few of St. Louis' best restaurants

At The Anheuser-Busch
Brewery Tour, located just south of downtown
St. Louis at 12th & Lynch Streets, you can take
the journey of how the world's greatest beers
are made. Opened in 1852, the St. Louis brewery
sits on 100 acres and includes three national
historic landmark buildings. During the tour you
will view how A-B use state-of-the-art technology
to produce their beers in a traditional brewing
process. You will also have the opportunity to
visit the famous Clydesdales paddock and stables,
beechwood aging cellars, the historic brewhouse
and the Bevo packaging plant, followed by a short
trolley ride to the Hospitality Room, where guests
who are 21 years of age or older may sample some
of the fine beers and malt beverage products.

The St. Louis Science
Center, located at 5050 Oakland Avenue across
from Forest Park, offers more than 700 free hands-on
exhibits for the kids to enjoy. Let me tell you,
there is one cool thing after another displayed
at the center. And that isn't all, you can also
check out the OMNIMAX® Theater, Discovery Room,
James S. McDonnell Planetarium, and many other
special traveling exhibits. The kids aren't the
only ones having fun, the parents and adults can
have fun as well. This is one cool place. Hey
local businesses, the St. Louis Science Center
can also meet your needs by hosting meetings or
company events from large to small. There are
meeting rooms, conference areas, and lots of special
features that are only available at the Science

The Hill, located
between Kingshighway and Hampton just south of
Hwy 44, is known for it's fabulous Italian reastaurants
such as; Charlie Gitto's "On the Hill", Cunetto's
House Of Pasta, Favazza's, Milo's Bocce Garden,
Rigazzi's and Zia's to name a few. If you want
to cook an Italian meal with some of the finest
meats, cheeses, and breads, then visit one of
the many specialty groceries and bakeries located
on The Hill. You can find what you need at Amighetti's
Bakery, John Viviano and Sons, Inc, John Volpi
Company, or Vitale's Bakery. While this neighborhood
retains its historical ethnic character, you don't
have to be Italian to enjoy spending time in this
community. |

Lone Elk Park , located
on I-44 North Outer Road west of Highway 141,
is where elk and buffalo roam... in the city.
Take a drive thru the 546 acre park to get a close
up look of bison, wild turkey, waterfowl, elk
and deer. The park includes a lake which provides
an opportunity for fishing or feed the ducks and
geese that call the lake home. Access Chubb Trail
from the park to observe wild bird life. Picnic
sites with BBQ Pits and shelters are available
on a first-come, first-served basis. While in
the neighborhood, check out the World Bird Sanctuary
located just outside of Lone Elks entrance on
the outer road. |

The St. Louis Science Center's James S.
McDonnell Planetarium, located in Forest Park,
is one of the premeire space education facilities
in the nation. Take the kids to the Boeing Space
Station which is split into 2 amazing exhibits.
The StarBridge exhibit focuses on the work on
board a space station - communication, astronomical
research, tracking, power and more. The StarBay
exhibit includes several very interesting lab
areas that give visitors a glimpse of what it’s
like to live and work on the International Space
Station. A great place for field trip! Admission
to the Planetarium's Boeing Space Station is $3
per person, which is a self-guided tour. Hours
are Sunday Noon-3:30 pm, Monday - Friday 11 am-3:30
pm, and Saturday 11 am-3:30 pm. Check the goplacez's
calendar for events such as the "Star Party" scheduled
for February 11th From Dusk Until 9:00 PM! This
free event is hosted by the St. Louis Astronomical
Society. |

FEATURE FOR THE WEEK OF JANUARY 17
Steinberg Skating Rink, located on the
East side of Forest Park near Kingshighway (314-367-RINK),
is St. Louis winter tradition. Skaters of all
ages and skill levels enjoy this unique ice skating
experience during the day and at night you can
forget that your in a major metropolitan city
as you circle the rink underneath the stars in
the cool winter air. Hungry or you just want to
rest and warm up? The Steinberg Café offers a
menu that includes appetizers, snacks, sandwiches,
burgers and pizza. Beer and wine are available.
On Fridays and Saturdays, bands and DJs are ready
to entertain from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. Hours: 10
a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10
a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday, from November
through March, depending on the weather.

The Saint Louis Art Museum , located
in Forest Park at #1 Fine Arts Drive (314-721-0072),
is one of the finest museums in America. The Museum's
roots are in the 1904 World's Fair, so special
attention is given to American art. The Museum's
collection of ancient art includes Assyrian, Coptic,
Egyptian, Greek, Iranian, Islamic, Near Eastern,
Persian, Roman, and Syrian works. From art to
photography, you can find it on display. There
are many events scheduled for the family, such

West Port Plaza, located at 55 Westport
Drive in West St. Louis County, is a unique dining

The Rockwood Reservation located 1 mile from Hwy 109 on Glencoe Road in Wildwood, MO, is a wonderful place to go hiking and explore nature. With over 7 miles of trails with an easy to moderate rating for difficulty, running springs, a small cave and an abandoned quarry. One can explore the area which once was an old limestone mining settlement that dates back to the 1800's. There is always a chance to see deer, wild turkey and other interesting birds. A very beautiful place on the outskirts of West County, a must see if you like the outdoors.

OF NOVEMBER 15
The Butterfly House and Faust Park located at 15193 Olive Boulevard in Chesterfield, MO (636-530-0076) is another St. Louis gem, where you can get a better understanding of butterflies and the natural habitat in which butterflies thrive. Visitors to Faust Park find a beautiful park with picnic and play areas, and several family attractions. The park is also home to the fully restored St. Louis Carousel, where visitors can ride one of the 60 hand-carved animals in indoor comfort. Enjoy a look back in time, by touring the Historic Village, re-created with structures from 19th Century St. Louis. The Saint Louis University men's basketball season has started and the team has it's eyes on a NCAA bid, after two straight trips to the NIT. The Billikens are traditionally one of the best defensive teams in the conference and this year should not be any different.
