Review: Disney returns to its
roots in this futuristic, animated tale of a young man’s search
for his real family. The young man is Lewis, an inventive lad, who,
although adopted by a loving family, yearns to bring back early memories
of his real mother. Being a brilliant child-genius inventor helps
the situation, and his fortunate meeting with Wilber Robinson, a boy
from the future, is icing on the cake as the two hop into a time-traveling
machine and land in the future. All this is done with ease, unless
you consider the presence of the nefarious guy-in-the-bowler-hat to
be a warning sign of trouble on the way.
Directed by Stephen J. Anderson, this kid-adventure feature is both
entertaining and a delightful treat for those of us who have seen
some pretty blah animation lately. Perhaps the most interesting innovation
is that it is filmed in digital 3-D, creating the best effects yet
to pop out of the screen and land right in your lap. This is not your
father’s 3-D! So, if you plan on visiting the Future with Lewis
and Wilber, be sure to catch a 3-D screening. It would be a shame
to see this “Back to the Future” type film in any other
dimension.
