Review: On a seaside outing, Siblings
Emma (Rhiannon Leigh Wryn) and Noah (Chris O’Neil) find an intriguingly
marked box floating in the surf. Retrieving the treasure, the two
open the box to find wonderful treasures inside. For Emma, the best
of the contents is a darling stuffed rabbit, Mimzy, which is quite
interactive and very anxious to introduce its self to her.
After the discovery, the children develop intellects far beyond their
years. Shocked by their newly acquired knowledge, the adults begin
to take an interest in the very special “toys” which have
consumed Emma and Noah’s attention.
In this very mild, sci-fi tale for kids, Mom and Dad (Megan McKinnon
and Timothy Hutton) take a backseat to the children. Special effects
are very important to the story, and are very well executed. Precision
editing to a suitable length for the film’s targeted (young)
audience is a big plus from director Robert Shaye. A very enjoyable
family film! And who knows, perhaps children just like Noah and Emma
can save the universe some day.
