Review: A London cop gets relocated
to a quiet suburb when is over-zealous police work makes the rest
of the force look like slackers. That cop is Nicholas Angel (Simon
Pegg), with an arrest record 4 times that of his peers he’s
ready to take on crime at any level. That is, any at level other that
of the sleepy village of Sandford, the land crime has forgotten. Or,
so it seems at first glance.
Partnered with the chief’s son, the eager Danny Butterman (Nick
Frost), Sergeant Angel makes do and soon stumbles across a series
of very suspicious “accidents” that befall the quaint
village. With a nose for crime, the high-achieving London cop begins
sniffing around Sandford for something “fishy.” What he
uncovers is startling, but very funny, as is the entirety of this
cleverly done spoof of police movies. Both in writing and acting,
Simon Pegg once again places his tongue firmly in his check and forges
onward to give us a comedy we can get into and thoroughly enjoy.
