Review: The film is set in the
1970’s when girls were not always given the privilege to participate
in certain sports, soccer being among them. Born into a family of
soccer fans, and players, Gracie (Carly Schroeder) has a natural interest
in the sport, but the times are not in her favor. Determined to be
on the high school team, a tragedy suddenly presents an opportunity.
Most people in her life don't share Gracie’s dreams, including
the all-male soccer team, the coaches and even her own father, but
none of them manage to break her spirit. Can this young athlete
break new ground and "even" the playing field?
Movie Extras:
The female lead, Carly Schroeder, was discovered in a nation-wide
talent search for an unknown actress.
Young, female athletes are now federally protected from discrimination
by Title IX provisions.
The story of “Gracie” was inspired by events in the
life of actress Elisabeth Shue, who was quite an athlete in high
school.
The film was shot in the town where Elisabeth grew up and in the
school that she attended.
Inspiring! Uplifting!
