Review: Based on the true story
of a young English teacher, Erin Gruwell (Hilary Swank), who takes
her first position at an inner-city high school and manages to tap
into a wealth of human drama and raw talent when she assigns that
her students keep a daily journal of their lives. An eye opening experience
for the young educator becomes a turning point for her charges as
they all begin to understand each others’ plights. Academics
improve, tolerance evolves and lives are forever changed.
Erin’s husband Scott (Patrick Dempsey) is left out-of-the-loop
as his wife becomes more and more involved in her students’
progress. But that’s another story.
Fortunately you'll get to see the culmination of both dramas, personal
and professional. Be sure to stay until the very end, so that you
get the follow-up on the actual Freedom Writers.
