Review: An intricately woven tale
of infiltration and deceit as a member of a notorious crime syndicate,
Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon) and his counterpart Billy Costigan (Leonardo
DiCaprio), both manage to work undercover. Colin wins the confidence
of the police department and reports to the mob, while Billy works
as an undercover cop betraying the confidences of gangland leader
Costello (Jack Nicholson). Each man becomes more and more torn between
two worlds as the story unfolds.
Directed by a master, Martin Scorsese, and superbly cast, this
intrinsically violent crime drama proves to be very engaging. A
cat and mouse tale heavily populated with “rats,” it’s
a box office winner!
Warning: Don't let anyone tell you any specifics about the plot
before you see it. This one could be easily spoiled by a well-meaning
friend.
