Review: As the title suggests,
this is not exactly a romantic
comedy. Hardly a romantic notion, a break-up denotes failed romance,
but I was still hoping for a comedy.
This match, made not in heaven, but at the ballpark, was destined
for failure. The initial passion might have been good, but it fizzled
quickly like a chemistry experiment gone bad. The problem seems
to be that Gary (V. Vaughn) is a boorish slob with a frat-house
mentality and Brooke (J. Aniston) is a sophisticated art gallery
worker. And even with director Peyton Reed at the helm, the twains
don't meet.
Most of the plot centers on the possession of their shared condo
and the lengths they go to in an effort to run the other out. Some
very funny sequences, but not a side-splitter by any means.
