Review: To whom can wimpy men
turn when they are fed up with getting proverbial sand kicked in their
faces on a daily basis? Answer: Dr. P. (Billy Bob Thornton) And how
do they learn of the top-secret classes offered by Dr. P and his faithful
henchman, Lesher? From graduates, of course. The former wimps, now
leading semi-normal lives pass on the word to prospective enrollees.
So, welcome to a world where the jellyfish go to the shark for advice.
Enter Roger (Jon Heder of “Napoleon Dynamite” fame), a
parking meter guy who is so socially backward he practically meets
himself coming. Now, point him in the direction of Dr. P.’s
class, sit back and enjoy meeting his new classmates, Walsh, who lives
in his mom’s basement, Diego, a hen-pecked, abused husband,
and a host of other equally nerdy guys.
A love triangle shapes the second half of the film as Roger’s
love interest, Amanda (Jacinda Barrett) gets caught in the trap of
the notorious Dr. P. Only Roger can spring her. That is, if he can
rally his courage and his forces.
