Review: Is the third in a rapidly declining series of “Scott as Santa movies.” In the beginning, most of us were interested in this very mortal take on the jolly, old holiday super-hero, as Scott Calvin (Tim Allen) accidentally fell into the big guy’s boots. Struggling through the throws of the Christmas season, we held on for the second installment. Sorry to say, this third endeavor has “jumped the shark.” Not even the introduction of the malevolent Jack Frost (Martin Short) can infuse any zip into this sagging story.

This year Scott’s in-laws are visiting to help usher in the next little Claus and offer moral support to daughter, Carol (Elizabeth Mitchell). Since they don’t know that Scott is really Santa, the plans get as sticky as a used candy cane. The nefarious schemes of the ever jealous Jack Frost, add another dimension to the sagging plot. Unfortunately, two dimensions still translate into “flat” and the tale plods on into a rather boring, predictable finish.

But wait, that’s an adult take on the show. The good news is that it’s a movie made for children, not older folks. So, scoot down in your seat a few notches and take a look from a different, shorter, perspective. Better? You bet! There he is, Santa, back again, and bringing in another glorious Christmas season filled with elves, toys and sweets, all the stuff dreams are made of, and right there on the big screen!
