Review: It’s all about relationships,
commitment, fear, betrayal, forgiveness and the participating couples.
Director Tony Goldwyn sets his sights on the males in the story and
it is through their perspective that we are privy to most of the conflicts.
The primary couple consists of Michael (Zack Braff) and Jenna (Jacinda
Barrett) an established pair of 20-somethings. Jenna is pregnant and
thrilled. Father-to-be Michael is frightened, confused and having
a major pre-mid-life crisis, including a fling of infidelity.
The youngsters’ plights are tempered by another couple in crisis,
Jenna’s parents, Anna and Stephen (Blythe Danner and Tom Wilkinson).
Their more mature take on the topic of relationships is a welcome
relief. Younger brother of Ben, Casey Affleck does a fine job of portraying
Chris, an old friend of Michael and another young, confused chap.
Many are hurt and a few forgiven in this ‘soap opera-esque’
take on love.
