Review: Written and directed by
master of suspense M. Night Shyamalan this “sheep in wolf’s
clothing” movie proves to be a rather delightful fairytale,
and not even as scary as most of the classic tales of old (Hansel
& Gretel, Snow White, Jack and the Beanstalk, etc.). Sure there
are monsters, but they are just part of the fantasy /drama. Nothing
gory is depicted, although, alas, a movie critic is sacrificed at
one point.
Apartment manager (Paul Giamatti) is chosen to host a very unusual
visitor from The Blue World until such time as she can be returned
to her home. It takes a village, or rather, an entire apartment
complex, to rescue the lovely sea nymph named Story (Bryce Dallas
Howard), and get her aboard her fantasy flight home before disaster
strikes.
Mirth and mystery accompany the intriguing tale as it is told by
Shyamalan to his willing audience. This is one fairytale that will
not put you to sleep. There are just enough “got-cha’s”
to pump in a little adrenalin from time to time. Have fun and bring
the older kids. The trailer is deceiving, there’s no horror
here, but plenty of imagination.
