Review: A delightful, quirky British
comedy about a family shoe business that is having difficulty staying
in the red. Manufacturing “sturdy shoes” for decades,
the market has changed and they can't give them away. All will be
lost unless new owner, Charlie Price (Joe Edgerton), can come up with
a new business plan, and fast. Help comes from a very unlikely source
in the form of an unconventional cabaret entertainer (Chiwetel Ejiofor).
The story’s premise is taken from reality, a failing English
footwear factory in Northamptonshire, which managed to shift gears
and save many jobs for the townsfolk.
Director Julian Jarrold does a bang-up job with this feel good,
but kinky, tale.
