| Review: School bullies are a pretty
standard topic for kids’ movies, but this story, based on the
book by Thomas Rockwell, goes much further. When Billy (Luke Benward),
a new kid at school, gets backed into a corner by the school bully
he bits off more than he can chew, literally.
Although known within his family for having a very weak stomach
and a strong intolerance for things icky, Billy tries to impress
his new classmates by promising to eat ten worms. Another catch
is that the bully and his friends get to prepare and cook the squirmy
treats that Billy must consume. Naturally, there` are time limits
and a bunch of rules only kids can appreciate.
Much time is given to the preparation and consumption of worms.
And the youngsters in the audience will laugh, groan and make yucky
noises at the appropriate times. Adults may get a little queasy.
Coming in right about the pre-determined attention span limit of
an hour and a half, this one is a sure hit with the elementary school
crowd.
This one is rated for “worm lovers only”
