Review: If you've got a middle-schooler
who “gives a hoot” for wildlife, be sure to plan a screening
of this uplifting tale of a group of kids who do some quite unorthodox
things to save the habitat of some endangered Burrowing Owls. They'll
love seeing the characters from one of their favorite books, and you'll
enjoy both seeing Jimmy Buffet play a cool marine-science teacher
and hearing his tunes in the soundtrack.
Author Carl Hiaasen’s story comes alive on the big screen
when Roy (Logan Lerman), Beatrice (Brie Larson) and Mullet Fingers
(Cody Linley) take on the powers-that-be in Coconut Grove, Florida,
and prevent construction that would be harmful to the environment.
Luke Wilson is an inept sheriff’s deputy who is frequently
out-witted by the youngsters as they carry out their conspiracy.
Predictable, but attractively packaged, it was well-received by
the youngsters in attendance.
