Review: It is 1945 and our country
is weary of the War and of the terrible losses suffered. In the European
Theater victory is almost within reach, but in the Pacific, the battles
are bloody and unceasing.
After what proved to be one of the most horrific encounters of
WWII, six soldiers from the hard-hit Easy Company raised the American
flag on Mount Suribachi, and they were forever immortalized in picture,
news copy and bronze. The surviving flag-raisers did not see themselves
as heroes, and desired no glory from their feat.
This film tells the story of the five soldiers and their comrades
in arms. The three survivors, Bradley, Hayes and Gagnon, return
to the U.S. as soldiers who must deal with their own demons as the
nation hails them as heroes. A tale with graphic scenes of war and
its carnage will not be for everyone, so be advised before you go.
Note: Some very interesting usage of CGI is employed in the battle
scenes. The beach scenes were shot on the black sand beaches of
Iceland, for the desired effect.
