Review: ATF agent Doug Carlin
(Denzel Washington) experiences a complicated version of that feeling
that only the French seem to have an expression for “déjà
vu.” He discovers that only he has the ability to prevent a
tragedy from occurring and he races against time, and logic, to do
so. A love interest (Paula Patton) is at stake in the edgy drama that
unfolds.
Director Tony Scott takes on a big project. He has to get his
audience to temporarily put their rational beliefs of time and space
on hold for a few hours, so that he can tell his tale in which time
and reality bend a bit. The good news is, it works. Fine performances,
great on-location shots of New Orleans and the fine choice of Val
Kilmer as the villain will keep you balance on the edge of you seat
for the duration.
