Review: He’s back; Bond,
James Bond, that is. And this time around it’s Daniel Craig
putting his personal stamp on the role. Not an iconoclast, Craig approaches
his Bond in a traditional way. And he’s been given the perfect
story in which to meld character and actor, as it’s the first
installment in Ian Fleming’s famous Bond series. Done in the
1970’s as a spoof, with Peter Sellers playing Bond, in this
2006 version, no one’s kidding around. The action begins in
the first few minutes (in traditional B&W) and just keeps going
for the entire duration of 144 minutes.
Just promoted to 007status, James goes out on a limb to track
down the principals of a terrorist cell. He follows the money trail
and uncovers Le Chiffre, banker to the world’s criminal element.
That path leads to a high stakes poker game in a ritzy, international
casino. Add a beautiful woman (Eva Green) and the stage is set for
action, adventure and romance, the 007 way.
A secret mission to remember, expertly directed by Martin Campbell.
